Can the Song Collector and his dog Lomax find “that special song” before Galway modernises, and traditional music vanishes forever? An introduction to folk music for kids aged 6+, “The Song Collector” transports you to 1930s Ireland through hand-drawn animation and audience interaction. Written and performed by Chris Moran. Work-in-progress production presented at Galway Theatre Festival 2022.

Drawing on the real work of folk song collectors like Alan Lomax, and set in a rapidly developing 1930s Galway, The Song Collector asks questions about what culture is, how we can preserve it in changing times, and whether sometimes we need to adapt...
