About Galway Theatre Festival

Galway Theatre Festival (GTF) is a bilingual theatre festival in the West of Ireland. Every spring we take over venues across Galway with daring, surprising new work.

GTF was founded in 2008 to give independent and early career artists a stage in the West, and it has grown alongside the city and the people who make theatre here. We believe that in a world that can seem like it wants us to feel numb, theatre wakes us up, and that work which refuses to play it safe does it best. So we champion theatre in all its forms and showcase the most exciting contemporary makers from across the island of Ireland.

On the doorstep of Ireland's largest Gaeltacht, we programme work in Irish, working with our partners to build on Galway's theatrical heritage so that contemporary theatre thrives in both languages.

GTF is a front-row seat to work that upends expectations and reckons with the world that we live in. Looking to the future, we want to see Galway's theatre community alight with imagination and energy, full of new voices and stories waiting to be told to audiences who will keep coming back for more.
