Continue ShoppingThe exciting international project Make a Move was launched in Rijeka in October 2018 and involves a collaboration between art organisations from Croatia, Ireland, Spain and Romania. Make a Move is an Art Incubator for contemporary European non-institutionalised theatre which will bring together non-institutionalised theatre organisations and artists from all over Europe. This innovative incubating environment will provide non-institutionalised theatre practitioners with the opportunity to develop their artistic and professional skills and grow their production proposals from the stage of creative ideas to different stages of production.
Contemporary theatre includes a variety of art genres such as physical theatre, corporeal mime and improvisational theatre. Very few of them, however, have made it into the mainstream cultural institutions. Most remain marginalised to the world of small independent cultural operators who lack the capacities and resources to scale their activities and bring them to a wide audience. The goal of Make a Move project is to contribute to the revitalisation of European theatre by mobilising the unutilized creative and innovative potential of these non-institutionalised and independent theatre practices.
The goal of the ‘Make a Move’ project is to develop and pilot an innovative incubating environment in which small independent cultural operators primarily from the field of contemporary movement-based theatre will have the opportunity to develop their artistic and professional skills and grow their production proposals from the stage of creative ideas to the stage of a full theatre production.
The project will accomplish this by creating a sustainable transnational co‐creation laboratory in the field of contemporary theatre, starting with the development of need-based curriculum, continuing in the execution of three co-creation laboratory sessions, producing a target of theatre productions for display at European Capital of Culture 2020 occasions in Rijeka (Croatia) and Galway (Ireland). In the process, the project will create capacity building tools and practices that will constitute a blueprint for a sustainable and mobile theatre incubator and raise awareness about the societal and artistic significance of non-institutionalised organisations practices.
