Being a transgender man in the modern day has its challenges. Louis struggles to embrace this identity by turning to someone he thinks will understand, a gender non-conforming doctor by the name of James Barry. The only problem? James Barry died in 1865.
As Louis recounts the real history of Dr. Barry’s life, the past begins to develop claws of its own. After all, not everyone wants their story told. Past and present collide as Louis and Dr. Barry fight for control of their respective narratives, exploring our evolving definitions of manhood across 200 years of history. Can we ever truly let the dead rest?
