When All The World Is Quiet is a new play exploring individual responsibility in the face of colonialism.
In a near-future Ireland, the promise of globalization has dissolved & given way to occupation by colonial powers. Only one island off the west coast remains untouched.
On Inis Rua, siblings Áine and Dáithí are at odds over the island’s fate. Áine is determined to join the mainland's fight for independence, forgoing the island's neutrality. Dáithí is determined to spare his people from a sisyphean battle- he hopes by preserving their culture, Ireland can one day rebuild itself.
Áine's departure draws nearer. A boat from the mainland approaches. A stranger arrives. Followed by a fire. Followed by a disappearance.
This work-in-progress is a rehearsed reading of the script (in development), followed by a curated audience talk-back. When All The World Is Quiet is in development with Druid’s FUEL programme.
