Aoife Noone to Step Down as Creative Director of Galway Theatre Festival

Aoife Noone and the Board of Galway Theatre Festival announce that after 3 years as Creative Director Aoife will step down from the position in the coming weeks.


Aoife Noone was appointed Creative Director in 2021 and delivered her final festival programme in 2024. Aoife has worked with Galway Theatre Festival for five years in total having previously held he position of General Manager for  two years before being appointed as the Creative Director of Galway Theatre Festival. Not only has Galway Theatre Festival flourished under Aoife's creative leadership particularly around the supporting, developing and showcasing of work from independent theatre artists and companies in Galway and beyond, but she has also successfully grown the audience of the festival.  Noone was pivotal in steering the festival successfully through the choppy waters of the global pandemic, ensuring that the festival can continue as an essential part of Galway's artistic landscape for the years to come. 

The Board of Galway Theatre Festival today congratulate Aoife on her tenure and thank her for the hard work and dedication that she has given the organisation over the last five years

Under Aoife's guidance, Galway Theatre Festival saw significant growth in  box office success, the development of Irish language work, and the strengthening of key strategic partnerships including with Fishamble (Dramaturgy Programme) and the Town Hall Theatre. Her passion and dedication have not only brought unforgettable performances and experiences to the Galway Theatre Festival community but also enriched the cultural fabric of Galway.
